H2Opportunities: Working together for a sustainable future for Alpine water
Water is one of our most precious resources – and it is increasingly threatened by the climate crisis. The new CIPRA project “H2Opportunities” aims to share knowledge and initiate a dialogue on fair water management in the Alps.
As the “water tower of Europe”, the Alps supply over 170 million people with drinking water. However, increasing drought, melting glaciers and growing conflicts over water present major challenges for regions, communities and the economy. The “H2Opportunities” project collects and shares experiences and solutions from the Alpine region – including interviews with experts, two public webinars and pub quizzes in seven Alpine towns. Coasters with interesting facts about water are also designed to stimulate conversation at the regulars' table.
The project ties in with the goals of the Alpine Climate Strategy 2050 and the Water Declaration 2020 and aims to improve networking among stakeholders in the Alpine region. Interested parties are invited to get involved, join the discussion and gain new perspectives on the future of water.
The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN).
