H2Opportunities

Water is one of our most precious resources and is under serious threat from the climate crisis. The project “H2Opportunities – Opening dialogues on a sustainable Alpine water future” shares knowledge and encourages discussion about fair water management.

As the “water tower of Europe”, the Alps supply more than 170 million people with water. However, climate change is severely limiting the availability of water. Water scarcity and drought are becoming a growing concern throughout almost the entire EU. At the same time, conflicts over water use between cities, agriculture, water management and ecosystems are increasing – driven by growing water demand and the need to secure production and irrigation.

To solve these challenges, the overriding need is for information and concrete proposals for balanced and equitable water management. Through qualitative interviews and public webinars, the H2Opportunities project aims to gather and share the necessary knowledge and solutions that already work in practice. Pub quizzes in seven Alpine towns and beer mats with facts about water are intended to stimulate discussion among guests and regulars.
