Schools for climate action in the Alps

The focus of the conference is on school education in the fields of climate change mitigation and adaptation for youth aged five to nineteen. Emphasis is placed on formal and informal, indoor and outdoor formats, and the inputs will consider the specificity of the Alps.

In connection with the community of Tschlin, SOMALGORS74 defines itself as platform for cultural projects and exchange. Projects develop their respective fields of reference both in the house and in the public space. As an initiative SOMALGORS74 wants to emphasize that one can act as a human being from a fullness, to contribute with and through this abundance to a community. Controversial railway tunnel between Turin and Lyon

In mid-June 2023, hundreds of people gathered in the French border town of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne to protest against the construction of a high-speed rail tunnel between Lyon and Turin. In a public statement, CIPRA France and Mountain Wilderness also criticised the project.

Experience the last of the glaciers

Recharge your batteries, go cycling, visit the glaciers: the Alpine Climate Camps project combines mountain sports with climate protection, further encouraging young climate activists. A bicycle tour in Austria at the beginning of September 2023 and other activities in Switzerland and Italy will draw attention to the disappearing glaciers.

Managing climate risks in biosphere reserves

As an effect of climate change, droughts, floods and other natural hazards are becoming more frequent, sometimes even simultaneously. How can we as a society learn to cope with this and become more resilient in the process? What role can biosphere reserves play in the Alpine region and beyond? With CIPRA participation, a new research project is now looking into these questions.

The health consequences of the climate crisis range from cardiovascular problems through to allergies, infectious diseases and depression. At the first Liechtenstein «Future Forum Alps», held at the end of June 2023, some 140 participants from various Alpine countries discussed measures for climate and health protection.

Point of view: Avoiding transport collapse together

As regards the growing volume of individual and transit traffic, it can be stated that neither regional nor national perspectives will lead to solutions. We have to find them together, because the Alps lie in the midst of Europe. "Your Alps! Your Future! Your Idea!" The sixth edition of the "Pitch Your Project" competition organised by EUSALP has started. The competition is open to all young people from the Alpine region aged 16 to 25. Submission is possible until 10 September 2023.

Central Mountains

ECCA 2023 - 6th European Climate Change Adaptation Conference

Europe’s influential climate adaptation conference, ECCA 2023, takes place from 19 to 21 June 2023, and will be held in Dublin, Ireland. The Joint Programme Initiative "Connecting Climate Knowledge for Europe" (JPI Climate), together with the MAGICA project, supported by the European Commission, is organizing this edition of ECCA. It will be an in-person event over two days for up to 500 people with live streaming of all plenary sessions and interactive hybrid formats.
