The health consequences of the climate crisis range from cardiovascular problems through to allergies, infectious diseases and depression. At the first Liechtenstein «Future Forum Alps», held at the end of June 2023, some 140 participants from various Alpine countries discussed measures for climate and health protection.

Via Alpina For All!

The long-distance hiking trail Via Alpina has been connecting all Alpine countries for over 20 years. This July, young people from different countries, social backgrounds, with and without impairments will get to know a part of the Via Alpina - through hikes and overnight stays outdoors while discussing the topics of social justice, inclusion and climate change.

Dialogues on wolves – strengthening shepherds’ networks in the Alps

[Completed] A project that promotes exchanges of knowledge across national and linguistic borders between shepherds in the Alpine region.

Alpine Changemaker Network (2021-2023)

[Project completed] The «Alpine Changemaker Network» is an international team drawn from NGOs, academia, social innovation and regional development organisations. We wish to strengthen Alpine society and we envision the Alps as a thriving ecosystem, one that offers an appealing life both to ourselves and to future generations. We combine regionally developed knowledge, social innovation practices, scientific teaching and researching skills, project management skills and much more besides – and we want to collaborate, share and learn!

Via Alpina Youth – walking the change

The Via Alpina long-distance-trail has been connecting all of the Alpine countries for over 20 years now. The project “Via Alpina Youth – walking the change” spreads knowledge, ideas and opportunities on sustainable lifestyles, inclusion, environmental protection and climate change along the trail.

FutureForum Alps Liechtenstein 2023

How does the climate crisis affect our physical and mental health? What measures are needed to keep us and the environment healthy? These and other questions will be addressed by the first Liechtenstein Future Forum Alps on 30 June and 1 July 2023 in Schaan under the title “My health, our climate”.

A stronger voice for young people

Young people want to bring about sustainable change, but politics and society are moving too slowly. At the launch of CIPRA International’s Erasmus+ project “Alpine Climate Camps”, young adults discussed their commitment to a sustainable world in Schaan/LI in January 2023.

The results of a recent survey from Switzerland are clear: no to energy production in almost unspoilt mountain areas. Intensively used areas around ski resorts or existing power plants would be better suited to the expansion of renewable energy.

Over the Alps on foot

In the summer of 2022, nine “Via Alpina Explorers” set out to hike the new red route of the Via Alpina. Three of them walked the route from start to finish, visiting all eight Alpine countries along the way – an undertaking that took four months.

Point of view: We need more young people in the Alps

Ageing, emigration and dying villages are typical problems for many mountain regions. It must therefore become attractive for young people to live in the Alps again, says Kathrin Holstein, member of CIPRA’s Youth Council and staff member of the Alliance in the Alps network of municipalities.

A kindergarten again after 50 years

A small mountain village is reviving: in the 1980s, Ostana/I had shrunk to fewer than ten inhabitants. A slow but steady turnaround then followed: an important step on this path is the newly reopened kindergarten.
